Maryland Statewide Monitoring Strategy

The Programmatic Coordination Committee (PCC) has developed a workgroup to work with the MDE and DNR to enhance the existing Maryland Water Monitoring Strategy to facilitate coordination and collaboration across levels of government and with non-governmental groups. The existing document (available under Publications at the MWMC web site) is submitted to comply with EPA grant requirements and not to document the full scope of water monitoring that is occurring within Maryland. The time frame to complete the enhanced document is over the next two years.
The PCC workgroup intends to expand on results from the two monitoring surveys previously conducted by the MWMC to better represent local and federal agencies, research institutions, and volunteer groups in the State. One of the goals for this effort is to help develop a comprehensive statement for water monitoring goals in Maryland and achieve a more seamless interface between the different program levels. Another is to discourage overlap and encourage cooperation to fill in "gaps" in location, monitoring type, and frequency.
The results of the most recent Maryland Water Monitoring Survey can be found at http://www.mgs.md.gov/mwmc/srvres.html. If you would like to add your program information, you can download the survey in a variety of formats at http://www.mgs.md.gov/mwmc/stratfrm.html.
