The Stream Monitoring Roundtable was held on February 4, 2003 at Fairland Regional Park in Laurel, Maryland. The goal of the workshop was to:

  1. Bring together organizations and individuals planning to monitor streams in Maryland during 2003,
  2. Exchange information about the kinds of monitoring being planned and;
  3. Prepare a geographically-referenced compilation of monitoring sites to ensure that everyone knows where everyone else will be monitoring.

The 43 people who attended the Roundtable heard presentations about upcoming monitoring by: Federal, state, and local government agencies; consultants; colleges and universities; citizen groups; and others who will be monitoring streams in Maryland during 2003.

Geographic monitoring data submitted by various groups prior to the meeting were processed into an all-inclusive GIS file. Each monitoring site location in the geographic data file contains contact information, major river basin, 8-digit watershed name and county. A web interface was developed that allows users to search this data file by watershed and/or county to determine who is monitoring streams in areas of interest in 2003.

The web address is: http://mddnr.chesapeakebay.net/MWMC/mwmc2003.cfm. At the Roundtable on February 4, a matrix indicating pairs of monitoring programs with intersecting, on-the-ground interests was developed for follow-up activities. The matrix, along with geographic data that were submitted to Maryland DNR after the meeting, is also available to download from this web site.
