The
Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Water Quality Monitoring
Program has been routinely sampling year-round in the Chesapeake Bay since
1985 and in the Coastal Bays since 1999. Data is physically collected
by scientists 16 times a year at 22 stations located in Maryland’s Chesapeake
Bay mainstem, 12 to 20 times a year at 55 stations sampled in the Chesapeake
Bay tidal tributaries, and 12 times a year at 45 stations in the Coastal
Bays. This program assesses the water quality by evaluating the levels
of nutrients and closely related habitat impacts such as dissolved oxygen
and water clarity. Learn more about the specific monitoring by visiting
Maryland DNR's Chesapeake
Bay Water Quality Monitoring Program or the Coastal
Bays Water Quality Monitoring Program.
